Locarno Now

Oddly, another ex-cinema. this one has just been announced as a future development, and it looks like it could be pretty cool, if they keep a load of the original features.

A few months ago, I gained access to this then dangerous, and condemned building and shot  this . This is the view looking up inside the tower you see to the left.

Old cinemas are a bit of a 'thing' for me so like these a lot. The archived shot up the tower is superb. I remember it from first time round i think.
Swindon - what a jewel?
Chris Macnamara: It is a little gem, isn't it. If you haven't already, have a look at the 28dayslater site. They have loads of internal shots of derelict cinemas, some are fantastic.
The building looks great!
Chris Macnamara: Martin thanks.
Good to see that it is not being pulled down for flats! (:o)
Chris Macnamara: Flats to be built next door, I believe.
I like this: the building seemingly packaged with the promise of its own renewal. Nice shot.
Chris Macnamara: We all hope it is revived properly, and I think it will be.

Very good composition and wonderful PP Chris. Great work. Many regards, Neil.
Chris Macnamara: Cheers Neil. Appreciate your comment mate.
Interesting angle. It's good that it's not being bulldozed but I can't help feeling a little sad when these sorts of buildings are no longer used for their primary purpose - I'm sure it would still make a great cinema, yet now we have those horrid multiplexes!
Ingrid
Chris Macnamara: Hi Ingrid, when I got inside this building I managed to get to the old projection room, and there were still the old wheels that held film for projectors lying there. It hasn't been a cinema since the king was a boy!

It actually looks like a movie set/prop, Chris. It has that surreal feel to it for me. I do like how you PPd it.
Chris Macnamara: It took a bit of time and stretching to get this Ginnie. Thanks for coming by again.
Stunning photo !
Chris Macnamara: Thank you Ferdi.
Great building and great photo, Chris. I love the way that corner of the boarding juts right into the viewers face.
Chris Macnamara: If I am honest, this was shot in portrait, and the wide angle lens compressed all the verticals so much that I was able to stretch it to the picture you see here. I could let you see the original if you were interested.

so is this to be fully restored then Chris? It looks too good to be destroyed. mal
Chris Macnamara: I think it is being restored. There are details on the develpoers web site.
Nice Shot!
Chris Macnamara: Cheers ChaCha
Good shot Chris - just when film theatres seemed to be recovering from TV, along came the DVD. I hope the re-dev is faithful to the original building - fingers crossed. Mike
Chris Macnamara: The details on the developers web site seem to say the original building will stay. I've been inside, and it's had two full on fires (a proper mess), so I'm not so sure, but I hope so. They seem to WANT to keep it like this.
